For all of our Shopkickers that have little ones, we know it can get pretty hectic trying to manage your self-care along with their needs. However, there is no reason it needs to be this way. Here are little things you can do in 5 minutes to alleviate tensions from your body – whether that be in between grabbing the kids from school, packing lunches, or sitting at your desk.
1. Breathing exercises
While you do this, try to focus on muscle movement. Laying down flat on the floor can be a big help. Putting your left hand on your chest and your right hand on your stomach, then inhale and exhale, and as you do, feel your muscles relax.
2. Quick yoga and stretching
Everybody has time to incorporate a quick stretch. Just take one moment to stand up, feel the ground beneath you, and stretch to your liking. Although it may not seem like a lot, doing this repeatedly throughout your life can help muscle aches and pain.
3. Shoulder movements
You can do this in the car, at the desk, cooking dinner, or in a meeting. Just do some big circles followed by smaller ones. Then reverse your pattern. Take the time to loosen up your shoulders so you can loosen up too!
4. Carry a portable aroma incense in your purse
Lots of incense stores hold these, but carrying around a little incense of lavender or another calming scent can go a long way. All you have to do is keep it on you and smell it whenever you feel your body tensing. Aromatic therapy is very effective and worth a try!
5. Splash cold water on your face
Grab that towel and head to the bathroom. Studies prove that cold showers and water could help calm anxiety or stress when feeling overwhelmed. Leave the bathroom feeling refreshed and ready to take on the next task.
Parents do a ton. Having a child is a beautiful thing, but it is also essential to make time for yourself. Completing these little things throughout the day will help you be the most relaxed, tension-free version of yourself at the end of the day. Ultimately, this will make you the best parent you can be as well.
